“I drifted across the evening Sea ~ and dreamed a dream that could not be,
the towers of Ice that lined the shore, cracked and splintered, whispered:
“Dreamer, dream no more.”
Sailing Thru Icebergs is dedicated to the wildly fantastical world of Icebergs ~ and their importance. Icebergs are beautiful natural constructions of Ice made of frozen water that is between 10,000 to 40 million years old. Icebergs dazzle in a dizzying array of colors and forms.
Enter the Ice Kingdom where cliffs and islands all are made of water, frozen and compressed and set adrift after a 10,000-year or more slide from distant mountaintops:
Mission
Icebergs are entering our Oceans at an unprecedented rate: breaking off the glaciers of the world and melting from Greenland’s vast ice cap and Antarctica’s massive ice shelves. As these frozen sentinels of a changing time enter our Oceans they drive our climate to change, shift critical ocean currents, change the ecosystems of marine and animal life, and raise sea levels to new heights. What lies ahead for our Earth home as entire islands of Ice return to their liquid form? It is our own individual and collective choices and our relationship with Nature itself that will, in time, tell us.
Icebergs and all they represent are a formidable challenge to humanity as we navigate through perilous times.
Artist and environmental advocate AlexiAndrea has spent years traveling to remote locations to photograph and is delighted to share the fantastical icescapes of the Earth's most northerly and southerly regions:
“While I am a longtime lover of warm, tropical islands, the surreal and haunting beauty of the Icy white polar regions and the reflected colors of sea and sky pulled me magnetically far north and south where I fast developed a fascination with Ice and the polar regions.”
We would love to bring Sailing Thru Icebergs to your community:
“There is another Sky, ever serene and fair,
and there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there.”
